PART OF THE UPPER CLYDE RIVER, Joe's Lake to Craig’s Chute
This is a series of moving water, small lakes and chutes. Be aware of safety issues pertaining you
the time of year that you paddle moving water. Cold water will kill, moving cold water can
sweep people and boats against obstacles from which it is sometimes difficult to get away. Take
some experienced people and follow their instructions. Use a team approach.
Still better is to learn for yourself the
risks and skills that apply to moving water paddle trips. Talk to local people, particularly local
paddlers, to help determine conditions at the time you expect to make your tour.
As a general rule, you will definitely want to portage around the chute. Don’t take chances
beyond your experience. Help is not necessarily near.
Just downstream of Craig’s Chute is French Line Road, where, hopefully, you’ll have a car
and dry clothes and snacks. If you have arranged it, you can, instead paddle to Road 511, the start of the
Brightside to Hopetown paddle trail.

Do that trip! Get Adventure Agent to help move vehicles and boats.

Any
obstruction on a river, no matter how it got there, is a hazard. Always be prudent. Rapids can have dear
consequences, even inocent looking rapids. Slow-moving water is easily underestimated. Study, instruction, and experience are the right way to a long practice of river-running. DON'T TAKE FOOLISH CHANCES!
