CLYDE RIVER KAYAK and CANOE WATER TRAIL DESCRIPTION

GET OUT THERE!

Use of this route is UNDER YOUR OWN RISK. Neither Adventure Agent nor any of its staff, associates, or otherwise linked entities shall be responsible for any risks, whatsoever. The Participant assumes responsibility and the risk for self and persons joining him/her.

Adventure Agent provides shuttle, instruction, guiding, on-water escort, shadowing, and rental. We're your local paddling connection, and the area's padling specialist.

Taking Road 511, you will pass the road sign marking the hamlet of Brightside and the French Line Road. Continue northward a couple of kilometers to where the Clyde River passes under the roadway. Find a place to park your vehicle, out of the path of heavy duty trucks that use this road. You can launch just upstream of the bridge.

On ALL paddle routes, don't block driveways or laneways. Emergency vehicles may need access. Comply with the signs. Ontario Provincial Police can fine, or have you towed. That's a costly paddling trip.

This is a nice paddle route. It holds its water well. The Clyde's high water level is long-lived. In the spring, this is a nice whitewater run. In the peak of the spring run-off, this is a super whitewater run. Assume the classification of the rapids at peak water level is class III. The river run would be a class II. (Find out what both these terms mean. Most people are unaware that there are two international classifications applied to any river. - why not enroll with Adventure Agent?) You have just enough time to settle into the boat, and the fun begins.

There is room to park cars by the bridge at Cedarvale about the midpoint of this section. In fact, it's not too bad for a bicycle shuttle, if your team has only one vehicle. But ... it's hilly, and in the bush, and in the blackfly season, ... Also note that some road signs are hard to find. Enjoy the drive, the scenery, and most of all, the people of the area.

There is roadside parking at the Hopetown bridge.Do not block the fire route. Allow for large fire trucks to access the area. You will be fined, maybe towed.

Any obstruction on a river, no matter how it got there, is a hazard. Always be prudent. Rapids can have dear consequences, even inocent looking rapids. Slow-moving water is easily underestimated. Study, instruction, and experience are the right way to a long practice of river-running. Use a team approach. DON'T TAKE FOOLISH CHANCES!
