Just outside of Palmerston Highlands,
        another world, perhaps
        reminiscent of the way Ontario's
Muskoka region used to be. Like this undercut of the
        Mississippi River, at the moment
        between fall and winter.

Several "common" tracts are mutually owned by all residents and provide not only destinations, but
great places for Palmerston Highlands Owners Association members to launch their canoe, kayak, or small boat, and to swim.

The enchanting trails that interlace the islands mysterious places are, unto themselves, things of beauty that carry one to a bygone era.

Not heavily trodden, as many public trails can be, private foot paths link throughout the islands, and
footbridges carry you over some obstructions.

The artist's eye may perceive something beautiful here, but to recreate the real beauty that flashes with every sunbeam is impossible, but the heart embraces it for the moment, in awe.

This special place is beautiful throughout all its seasons. Every day is a blessing.
Wildlife of course is at play here, from American Bald Eagles, Green Herons, 5 lined skinks, to wolves and bears.

Paddling in winter is wonderful.
Be safe in your practise, though.
I have a very expensive, ragged sample of a paddle I used to go up the
Green River at Washago, Ontario, one winter.
        Take spares.

The lands all about the Mississippi River are patent lands. That means they are privately owned. Enjoy the beauty, but respect private lands and the owners who enjoy it's wild appearance.

There is enough to enjoy in a kayak or canoe. One doesn't rush. One scopes for the
pockets of wilder places within the wilderness, as though a skink might suddenly appear upon the shore.
