EMERGENCY
VEHICLES
This is a wilderness area, or very
rural, if you
wish to describe it that way. It is very, very different from the town or city. Here, we depend
upon our neighbours and friends. Primarily it is our neighbours who will help us.
We do have ambulances with 4-wheel drive, and air ambulance landing sites.
In times of crisis, in an area like this, personal slights, petty fights, grudges, and the like are set
aside, for this is the meaning of community. Many of our neighbours do a fabulous work for us.
They volunteer to save lives and spend time practicing the necessary skills for that help. These
people have invested much, much time in learning to use equipment and their skills. They do it out
of concern for their neighbours, and because they care a great deal. Even if an individual doesn't
meet with your approval, that person is to be respected for the effort and time commitment they
put
toward you and me.
FIRST RESPONDERS
It may well be you that needs emergency care. Whether it is a fall on an icy patch, a ladder falling,
tripping in the bath, electrical shock, automobile accident, or house fire, the volunteer firefighters
are what is termed "First Responder."
These First Responders have also spent some good money on special colored lights for their
vehicle.
The special color used is GREEN! You may have seen or may not have seen the GREEN
LIGHT on top or
inside the vehicle running down the road.
When you see the GREEN LIGHT, you are requested by law to pull over and let them through.
The GREEN
LIGHT means they are on their way to an emergency. It may be your family member or other
special person
who needs help for what ever reason. When you see the GREEN LIGHT, let them by. If you are
driving,
pull over, get off the roadway. If you are walking or standing in the roadway, get off the road. In
emergencies, seconds count. That's why they are in a big hurry. That's why they carry and use a
Provincial
Standard GREEN LIGHT. That's why you won't see a cop chase 'em down. They are emergency
care givers.
They are the unsung heroes of Ontario's hinterland. Respect them.
Give way. Get out of the way.
