BACK TO "FIRE BANS "

THE FOLLOWING IS FROM THE FRONTENAC NEWS, May 10, 2007

Burn bans were issued over the entire Central and North Frontenac and Addington Highlands region on Tuesday.

Fire Chief Cuddy realized his crews and equipment could not contain a spreading fire.

Ministry of Natural Resources was contacted, and within an hour, a helecopter arrived with a crew from Haliburton.

3 CL 415 water bombers were brought in to douse the flames

Fire Chief Mark MacDonald said some brush fires were caused by people contravening Twp fire regulations prohibiting daytime burning April to Ocober. "People will be expected to pay damages..."

Today's indices are 42, while 23 is considered extreme.

"The advantage of a comprehensive ban is that when MNR flies over the county, they will know that any smoke they see shouldn't be there."

With no rain in the forecast, this first fire ban of the season could remain in effect for quite some time.
